Degrees: BS Biology/Chemistry (dual major), MS Biochemistry, DCM/PhD Animal Pathology.

Jane is the only child of Dr. Hamden R. and Lilia E. Marsden. Jane’s mother died when Jane was twelve, from complications after surgery. Subsequently Jane’s father, a luminary in the field of experimental high-energy physics (most notably in quantum mechanics) was often away doing research or attending conferences, leaving Jane in the care of her great aunt Cecilia Marsden (her father’s very wealthy aunt).

Jane attended a private prep school, graduating early (at the age of 16) at the top of her class. She elected to attend the university where her father was lecturing at the time, primarily so she could live with him. She “breezed” through her undergraduate program (even taking a dual major) in less than 3 years, and completed a very difficult biochemistry master’s degree program in just under 2 years. She immediately went on to get her veterinary medicine degree, mostly to qualify her for the advanced Animal Pathology degree. She had just turned 24 when she switched to her father’s new institution (where Adam was studying) to complete her doctorate in animal pathology before she turned 25. Fresh out of school, then, she joined her father’s new “suspended animation” research program (sponsored by the government).

Jane met both Brian and Adam as coworkers on the project. Brian seemed to find in Jane the kind of brilliantly intelligent, confident, and driven individual who would match up to him (and consequently understand his own obsessions). Jane was very taken by Brian’s good looks and easy, friendly manner. After a year of working together and dating steadily, Brian proposed to Jane and she accepted his offer.
